Car Rental Sotogrande & Estepona - Compared 26/27

I love traveling and sharing my experiences. For me it's important to share only practical and useful information in the blog, things that actually help, whether you're planning a trip to Costa del Sol or thinking about renting in Spain.

Skip the airport counter — here's what local car rental companies in Sotogrande and Estepona actually charge, what they hold as a deposit, and which ones will bring the car straight to your door.
If you're already staying in Sotogrande or Estepona, picking up a rental car at Málaga airport often means an hour or more just waiting in line for the keys — plenty of local companies are a few minutes from the marina, the port, or your villa instead. We compared them directly: same dates, same car groups, same question every renter actually cares about — what will this cost, and what happens to my card?

🏘️ Holiday Apartments in Estepona & Sotogrande
Looking for holiday apartments in Estepona, Sotogrande or Manilva? Sunset Rental always has great apartments to rent on offer. Base yourself here and use the rental car for day trips to Ronda, the Caminito del Rey, Cádiz, Tarifa, Gibraltar, or even Seville — all well within reach.
📌 1. Why Rent Locally Instead of at the Airport
Málaga Airport counters can mean a two-hour queue at peak season, deposits running into the thousands, and - occasionally - a "desk" that's actually a shuttle ride from the terminal. Renting locally in Sotogrande or Estepona skips the transfer, the queue, and often the big deposit too - some companies will even deliver the car to your villa.
Staying a month? You don't need the car for a month. Rent for three or four days at a time for trips to Ronda, Córdoba, the Caminito del Rey, or the Alhambra, instead of holding it from arrival to departure.
Trade-off: smaller fleets, and a couple of companies need a request rather than instant booking - flagged below

🚘 2. Car Rental Sotogrande
A note before you compare prices
Three of the sites you'll find when searching "car rental Sotogrande" — Sotogrande Rent Car, Telecoche, and Estepona Rent a Car — are the same company, Sotogrande Experience SL. All three run on an identical booking engine and list the same fleet. Addresses differ slightly by physical desk, so double-check which one you're actually being sent to.

| Category | 6 days | Deposit |
| Mini MINI One | €430 | €600 |
| Mid-size Citroën DS3 | €440 | €600 |
| SUV Volvo XC40 | €530 | €600 |
| Premium Mercedes GLA | €860 | €600 |
| 9-seat minivan Mercedes Vito | €1,270 | €900 |
A fixed €50 "return time supplement" and a €20 cancellation insurance (pre-ticked by default) get added to almost every reservation — worth checking before you pay. Payment is via a credit card payment platform, roughly 50% due upfront.
Autos Aguirre
Family-run since 1982, offices in Sotogrande, Gibraltar and Málaga airport.
| Website | Phone | Languages | |
| autosaguirre.com | +34 956 17 35 35 | autosaguirre@autosaguirre.com | Spanish, English, German |
Sotogrande office address not published on the website — confirm the exact pickup point by phone or email when booking.
| Category | 6 days | Deposit |
| Mini Fiat 500 Lounge | €166 | €900 |
| Mid-size Seat Ibiza | ~€191 | — |
| SUV (premium) BMW X5 3.0d Automatic | €2,464 | €2,500 |
| 9-seat minivan VW Caravelle Automatico | €1,123 | €1,800 |
Their "SUV" category is genuinely premium (BMW X5, Range Rover Sport upgrades), and bookings aren't confirmed instantly — you'll get a "pending confirmation" email. Full insurance (which zeroes the deposit) costs €90 on smaller cars, up to €240 on the minivan.

🚘 3. Car Rental Estepona
Cafisa — pets allowed, discount code for our readers SUNSET26
| Website | Address | Languages |
| cafisarentacar.com +34 952 77 14 50 | Avenida de Antonio Belón 6, Ed. Giralda, 29602 Marbella (Cafisa is Marbella-based, with delivery to Estepona, Sotogrande, Manilva and Casares) | ✅ English, Spanish, German, Danish, Swedish (site available in all five; reviewers specifically mention "easy English communication") |
Family-run for more than 40 years.
| Category | Model | 6 days |
| Compact | Citroën C3 | €248 |
| SUV | Peugeot 3008 Automatico | €507 |
| 8-seat minivan | Citroën SpaceTourer | €901 |
Correction: Both Cafisa's booking site and its main homepage list "without paying deposit" as a headline advantage — but the company confirmed directly, in writing, that a real deposit does apply, held on a credit card at pickup. The amount scales both by car category and by the length of the rental, so it's worth confirming the exact figure directly with Cafisa for your specific car and dates before you book. A credit card in the main driver's name is required; debit cards are not accepted for this. Go in expecting a hold on your card despite what the marketing says. Child seats are free, and Cafisa is the only company here that explicitly allows pets in the car. Fuel policy is full-to-full, and mileage is unlimited. Delivery is free to/from Málaga airport; elsewhere (Sotogrande, Estepona, Manilva, Casares) it's a flat €25 per trip.
Espacar — also zero deposit
| Website | Phone & Email | Languages |
| espacar.com | +34 952 792 935 +34 667 710 369 info@espacar.com | ✅ English, French, German, Spanish |

| Compact Renault Clio | €210 | €0 |
| SUV Nissan Qashqai Auto | €366 | €0 |
| 9-seat minivan Renault Trafic 9PL Auto | €863 | €0 |
The cheapest of the local operators across all three categories. No deposit, unlimited mileage, free child seats, free additional driver. Home delivery is only included for rentals of a week or longer.
Estepona Car Rental Centre (Time in Spain Holidays)
| Website | Address | Phone & Email | Languages |
| esteponacar.com | Avenida Luis Braille 23, Puerto de Estepona Deportivo, 29680 Estepona, Málaga | +34 951 829 924 info@EsteponaCar.com | ✅ English (site is English-first) |
| Category | 6 days | Deposit |
| Compact Citroën C3 / Peugeot 208 | €230 | €300 (debit) or credit card |
| 7-seater Citroën Berlingo / Rifter | €504 | — |
| 8-seat minivan Citroën Spacetourer | €930 | €500 |
The only company here that spells out a fallback for renters without a credit card: a €300 deposit on a debit card instead. Child seats free, delivery to your address on request, minimum rental is 3 days.
Oscar Estepona
| Website | Address | Languages |
| oscar.es hola@oscar.es | Calle Franklin 1, P.I., 29680 Estepona | Spanish confirmed; English not verified |
| Category | Minimum age | 6 days |
| Small Volkswagen Polo | 28+ | €228 |
| Mid-size Kia Stonic (hybrid) | 25+ | €271.70 |
Minimum driver age changes by car group — don't assume one age applies across the fleet. Part of Oscar's fleet is physically based in Marbella, so confirm the actual pickup address before you book, even though the search shows "Estepona." Deposit ranges €150–900.
RentyCar
| Website | Address | Phone & Email | Languages |
| rentycar.es | Calle Ibiza 7, local 1B, bloque 14, 29680 Estepona, Málaga | +34 608 444 777 info@rentycar.es | Spanish confirmed; English not verified |
| ⚠️ Book well ahead if you want this company Advertised as "sin fianza" (no deposit), but a €100 deposit appeared at checkout when we booked. Minimum rental is 7 days. The fleet is small — on our exact dates (21–27 September) nothing was available at all, so the prices below are from a test booking in October instead, not comparable to the September prices quoted for every other company on this page. |
|---|
Opel Corsa €223/7 days, Citroën C4 €250, Citroën C3 Aircross (automatic) €290 — all October dates. They also offer a 30-day rental from €750/month.

🗺️ 4. Extras: Child Seats, GPS & Additional Drivers
| 👶 Booking with kids Espacar and Cafisa work out cheaper once you add child seats and an extra driver — even when their advertised daily rate isn't the lowest on the page. |
|---|
🪪 5. What to Bring: Documents
- Driving licence — valid, physical licence, usually held for at least 1–2 years before your rental date. Must not be expired on the day you pick up the car; some companies also check the issue date to confirm the minimum.
- Passport or national ID card — original document, not a copy or photo. Must not be expired on the day you pick up the car.
- Payment card for the deposit — must be in the main driver's name; a family member's or friend's card won't be accepted. Must not expire before your return date.
Oscar specifically also mentions "customer verification" as a separate step, in addition to the licence and ID. If you're bringing an additional driver, their own valid licence needs to be shown too, either at pickup or emailed to the company afterwards.
🆘 6. What to Do in Case of an Accident or Minor Damage
None of the companies compared here publish a full accident procedure, but the basics are fairly standard across car rental in Spain, and worth knowing before you need them:
- Report it immediately — within 24 hours at the latest. Most rental insurance only holds up if the company is told promptly. Waiting until you return the car is the single biggest reason a deposit or excess ends up being charged.
- Take photos straight away — the damage itself, the surroundings, and the car's number plate, from a few different angles.
- If another vehicle is involved: call the police (Policía Local or Guardia Civil) and get a report. Exchange details with the other driver — full name, ID, licence plate, and insurance company and policy number. Most rental cars carry a "Declaración Amistosa de Accidente" (European Accident Statement) in the glovebox — fill it in with the other driver on the spot if possible.
- If it's just a scratch, a kerbed wheel, or minor damage with no other car involved, you still need to tell the company the same day — don't wait and hope it goes unnoticed at drop-off. A quick WhatsApp message with photos and a short description (what happened, where, and when) is accepted by most local companies here, even if it isn't written into their official terms.
- Don't abandon the car somewhere it could suffer further damage or get towed — stay with it or move it somewhere safe if you can do so without making things worse.
- Keep a copy of whatever you send — the photos, the message, and any reference number the company gives you back.
